Mission: The Giving Gardens program aims to promote and support efforts to maintain gardens in Portage County. The produce harvested from these gardens is donated to local food distribution centers in order to increase food
security and provide healthy meal options for economically disadvantaged citizens.

Gardens are led by: Jeremy Erickson and Jill Hicks as well as numerous volunteers!

Currently, there are 16 giving gardens in Portage County.

The program is supported by the Portage County Hunger & Poverty Prevention Partnership and Empty Bowls, HPPP’s annual fundraiser, generous donations from Lynn’s Greenhouse, Anthony Simkowski, Chet Biadasz, and Jungs Garden Center and,
of course, a team of dedicated volunteers.

The Giving Gardens program relies on your donations of time and resources to make fresh, local food available to the people who need it most.

Are you interested in getting involved? Here are some ways you can help:

Donate garden supplies (e.g., seeds, plants, compost, tools, gloves, etc)
Volunteer at a garden
Wash and distribute produce to a donation site
Contribute land/space for a garden

Your donations of tools or time will go a long way!

If you’re interested in volunteering with Giving Gardens or would like more information about the project please contact the Giving Gardens Manager, Jeremy Erickson, at givinggardenswi@gmail.com.

And find us on Facebook!

It will only be solved when people like you and me decide to act.

Future Activites

Looking for help with garden signage, branding, and increasing relationships with those who also supply food to those who need it. We would also like to expand the gardens, provide raised beds at some locations, promote rainwater collection, and use compost. If you would like to help us in 2014-2015 please let us know!
