Patrick Cassidy was a realtor in Portage County who also volunteered for many organizations.  He was one of the original Hunger and Poverty Prevention Partnership and Empty Bowls committee members. Patrick was a “doer”; just give him a task and he always followed through.  He headed the corporate sponsorship recruitment for Empty Bowls for many years and also volunteered behind the scenes for the annual Empty Bowls event.

When Patrick passed away unexpectedly, he left instructions for donations to go to the Hunger and Poverty Prevention Partnership. The Partnership used those donations to fund these scholarships.  The members of the Partnership award the scholarships in Patrick’s honor to students who exemplified community service.  Applicants must be graduating high school seniors who are residents of Portage County.

Selection of the scholarship winners is based on the applicant’s community and school service, volunteer activity, personal essay, references, and the financial need of the applicant.  The decision of the Partnership Board is final.
